Tonight I shot the Homecoming parade and football game for work. I’ve shot parades before, but I never really get the chance to shoot football. I really liked it. There’s something fun about being on the sidelines snapping away. Granted I almost got taken out twice, but I managed to jump out of the way in time. The players come flying in and you have to decide to take the shot or save yourself. I did more of a snap and run. Get the photo but don’t risk breaking anything. And I actually found out that I’m pretty good at football photography. Who knew? I know what I’m giving you here is a photo of a photo but the idea of plugging my camera in was too much to deal with. I’ll save that for when I get back to work on Monday. I’m glad I ended up with this assignment since it’s out of my usual realm. I enjoy trying new things and challenging myself photographically. I always learn something new that I didn’t know before.
Ron made dinner tonight, again. With all of the craziness going on at work ans then trying to finish up these wedding photos my home duties have really been slacking. Plus I covered a GED graduation tonight so I didn’t get home until 7:30ish. I really appreciate that he steps up when I can’t and dinner was great. Hopefully I can get my cook on again soon and make something great.
Someone got a little sleepy after watching The Vampire Diaries with me tonight after work. Today was a busy day. I had three photo assignments. Earlier today I learned about George Washington in kindergarten, ran over virtual pedestrians in a drunk driving simulator in high school and then covered the student teacher awards and teacher of the year ceremony tonight. Woosh. Tomorrow I have fourth grade Colonial Day, the virtual governor’s school expo and three high school athletes signing their letters of intent for college. The end of the school year is always jam packed as I try to catch events for nine schools, but it’s fun too. Final testing is finishing up and the schools plan lots of fun events for their students.
I decided I didn’t feel like my doing my work and let Buddy so it instead. If there’s lots of stories about dog bones and Animal Planet in this week’s paper I know nothing about it.
Things were a little bit of a mess today at work as we moved out of one building into another. This picture is of my area after my desk had been moved out. Now, there’s actually nothing in this space as the table and computer were moved out later in the day. I’m already set up in the new office and I.T. is coming tomorrow to hook up our network and phones, hopefully. So it’s work from home tomorrow and probably into the new office Friday if everything’s ready, but definitely by Monday. Oh and nobody stole the fridge. It was still there today.
Off to bed early tonight. I have to get up earlier than usual for work in order to photograph convocation. Then I have a million things to finish before tomorrow, starting with trying to call Haiti again (random I know). But at least its a short week and a long weekend. I have off on Friday and then Monday is a holiday. Perfect.
Today, I spent the afternoon on the golf course. Now, I’m the type of person who gets annoyed with putt putt so I wasn’t playing. Instead, I had to photograph a high school golf tournament for work. It isn’t my favorite assignment, but I’m outdoors for a few hours and the pictures turn out well. I got to drive a cart so I could easily get to where all the golfers were along the course, but the mosquitos were ridiculous. Currently the West Nile outbreak is only in Texas, but if it shows up here I probably have it. I tried to fight them off, but I was massively outnumbered.
Today was a busy, busy work day. I had tons of stuff to do and unfortunately, a meeting. While I could have been getting things done, I had to sit in a meeting instead. Ugh. But at least I got to see this sunset after the meeting. I’m not saying it made it worth it, since I’m just now going to bed and I still have a few things left to finish in the morning, but it helped.
Preparing to move is tough work. My office is switching locations next month, which means we all have to purge things we don’t need. Yes, I pretty much filled up both of these gigantic trash cans plus one more smaller one near my desk. And yes, I would’ve liked to recycle all of this paper, but the county where I work doesn’t recycle white paper yet and it didn’t make sense to haul of this stuff to my car, drive it an hour home to the dump near my house where I could recycle it and then haul it into the recycle bins. Talk about a mess. So it got tossed and now I’m pretty much ready to move. The stuff I kept can fit in a box or two and be moved to the new place next month.
Time for bed. I’m covering a three day trial for work and today was a very long first day. I’m hoping tomorrow will be shorter, especially since we’re starting earlier. And I think my car may be done so it would be nice to pick it up.
