Today was uber productive. I was able to get my cleaning down, take down the Halloween stuff and put up the fall stuff. I’ll probably switch it out with Christmas stuff the Saturday or Sunday after Thanksgiving. Decorating for Christmas is a lot of work so the longer it can stay up the better. And we have Buddy this year and I have a feeling he’s a Christmas dog so I’m sure the longer he can schmooze the Christmas decorations the better.

If there was ever any doubt that fall is here, today solidified it. Ron and I traveled to the mountains today and enjoyed the sights of the fall foliage. We had a great day, traveling Skyline Drive and stopping at the overpasses. It was pretty crowded, I guess since it’s the peak of the fall colors, but it wasn’t bad enough to ruin it. For the most part, we were able to find space at the overlooks to enjoy the view and take a few pictures. We had lunch at Skyland and stopped at Big Meadows, which was arguably the most crowded place on the whole drive. Once off the drive, we visited a few apple places in Sperryville. It was definitely a great way to spend a Saturday.

It’s official. I finally put up my Halloween stuff tonight. I know I’m kind of late since Halloween isn’t that far away, but I was still trying to hold onto summer. I guess now I’ll embrace fall although I have to say I’m not loving these cold mornings. And im definitely not looking forward to winter. But at least I still have my tan.

Ron and I met up with some friends today and went to a local pumpkin patch. We had a great time watching pigs race, seeing people shoot a pumpkin cannon, getting lost in a corn maze, riding a hay wagon and picking out a pumpkin. It was great to catch up with them, because we hadn’t seen them in a while, and it was nice to do something fall oriented. I’ve been having a hard time getting into fall because I’m such a warm weather person and fall is the gateway to winter. I think it also didn’t help that my summer was extended by our recent vacation where the weather was warm and sunny. But today was great and much needed. Plus we now have pumpkins, including one for Buddy. I may even put up my Halloween stuff this week.

So I promise all of those leaves were not there yesterday. It’s like someone shook them of the trees in the middle of the night. I actually took this picture this morning and by the time I got home from work, the amount of leaves had doubled. And, there’s still more left to fall. I guess winter is really coming.

Even though some of the leaves have already turned brown and fallen, I found this perfect fall picture today. My aunt and uncle own a campground, the site of my first job, and there the leaves are amazing. I don’t know if its because its in a bottom or what but it seems like over the last week the colors have really come out. It’s crazy!

Meet my scarecrow friend. Ron picked him out last year. And I know he wears a girly hat, but for some reason he still seems more like a he. And the other one above my cabinets, though she has on overalls, seems more like a she. Go figure.

I love my new sign in the kitchen. I’ve been looking for something to go in the space above the stove for a while because it’s a pretty small space and this fits perfectly. Since it has pumpkins I’ll probably change it on according to season but hopefully I can find something similar. I picked this up last week at either Joanns or Michaels, I don’t remember which, and it was 60 percent off. Score!

It’s finally here! Happy Halloween! It seems like this holiday took forever to get here and a busy one it was. I covered a court case, worked all day, covered a town’s Halloween celebration and then helped out with my church’s Trunk or Treat. And that’s all before coming home and doing more work. But, even with all the craziness, I still really enjoyed Halloween. It’s such a great holiday. The decorations are fun, the candy is great, there’s lots of activities to choose from and everyone dresses as something they aren’t. It’s just a fun holiday that brings out the child in us all. Plus, now I can take down my Halloween decorations and replace them with my Thanksgiving stuff. And then it’s on to the best holiday of all, Black Friday! What, you thought I was going to say Christmas? That comes later.
